ABSTRACT

Studies in developing countries like India have revealed a very high incidence of biochemical riboflavin deficiency, particularly in women and children as judged by erythrocyte glutathione reductase activation test (EGR-AC). Riboflavin deficiency can cause conditioned deficiency of vitamin B6 and the mucocutaneous lesions observed in these two vitamins deficiencies could be due to impaired skin collagen maturity. Subclinical riboflavin deficiency impairs psychomotor function and vitamin B2 requirement may be enhanced during increased physical activity. Riboflavin status is not dependent exclusively on dietary intake of the vitamin, certain non-dietary factors can modify riboflavin status. Respiratory infection, certain diseases, drugs and hormones can influence riboflavin metabolism.

ABSTRACT

Se presenta el caso de un lactante, con crísis clónicas inicialmente y luego tónicoclónicas que lo llevan finalmente a status epiléptico, secundarias a déficit de piridoxina. El caso debe alertar sobre la posibilidad de procesos infrecuentes, como el de este ejemplo, como causa de cuadros convulsivos de difícil manejo.

A teoria da inibiçäo da piridoxamina pelo CS2 e a conseqüência interferência no metabolismo do triptofano, tem sido estudada por alguns autores e se apresenta como muito promissora para a elucidaçäo de um dos mecanismos de açäo tóxica desse solvente industrial. A funçäo da Vitamina B6 no organismo humano, principalmente sobre o metabolismo do triptofano e a excreçäo do seu principal metabilito, o ácido xanturenico, é estudada no presente trabalho, correlacioando-se a exposiçäo ocupacional ao sulfeto de carbono
